Gobble, Gobble

Today we made our Thanksgiving Painting. We stamped our hands onto the canvas. The kids picked out the colors and stamped the words. Stella wanted a tree. Gibson wanted a pumpkin. I loved this activity today with the kids. It is so much fun to watch them think and carefully paint. It now hangs in our kitchen for the month.

WFMW: Wall Decor

We do not have a headboard for our bed, just the frame. I have been wanting to find something to put on the wall behind our bed, but didn't know quite sure what. A while ago, when the Easter decor was on clearance at Target I saw these charger plates for $2.50 a piece. Instantly I knew that these would go great above our bed, all they needed was a little spray paint.

Towels

Yesterday with the help of my Mother in law I made my kids another set of bath towels with hoods. They have some really cute ones that they got at a store. The ones I made are basic. Just take a full size bath towel and a hand towel. Cut the hand towel in half. Sew one side to the middle of the full size towel. Bring together the ends of the hand towel, sew to form the hood. I think I'll get the embroidered with either an animal or their names. They each picked out there colors. The project only took about 15 minutes. Simple and fun.

Baby Shower

A friend of mine helped me make the center pieces. I bought the charger plates at Hobby Lobby and spray painted them pink.

The shower was a lot of fun. Great food and cake. We each made a birthday card for Kanley instead of playing games. I had age 26!!!

Tickled Pink!!

Last night, I was able to go over to my friend's house and learn to make hair bows!! It was so much fun. It's a lot of fun to work with ribbon. It takes me longer than the average person to make a bow, but there is a lot of concentration and gluing, pinching, grabbing, choosing, etc!! I had a lot of fun. I would like to make more soon. How about you, have you made hair bows before? Did you enjoy making them?

One Room Down........ two more to go!

I got the urge to paint Friday night. I was sick of our white walls in our bedroom with brown curtains. Didn't go good. And the walls still had the anchors in from the previous owners wall hangings. It's been over a year in our house, it was about time I did something with it. Our bed spread is green and brown with a little yellow and tan. I really like the green and thought I was going to go with that color for the walls and then Q brought it to my attention that I shouldn't do that, b/c then we'll have a mint chocolate chip room. I agreed. I chose a soft yellow. It is more challenging to paint in this house because our walls are textured plaster with half circle shapes. I even bought one coat paint thinking that'll do the trick. Wrong!! Two coats later it's finished.


This picture really doesn't capture the real color of it. This chair is my Great Grandmother's. My Mom gave it to me. Every time I sit on it I think of them. I loves pieces of history.

Christmas Open House

This is our new tree. I bought a pre lit tree. I love it. My new additions to the tree are my cardinals.

All of these houses my Mom hand painted. They are very special to me.
My Mom also cross stitched my stocking. It makes me feel so good to know that she spent that much time on something for me. So much detail went in to it.

These are a few of my favorite things. I've enjoyed looking at your Christmas decor. It's such a fun time. I feel really close to my family and can feel the spirit as I focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

Garland

Liza and I put together this garland on Saturday afternoon. We went to Michael's earlier and picked up some shinny glittery things to add to it. I used to garlands together, a couple of clamps and some fake flowers that were in our bedroom collecting dust. I used those for fillers. I think it turned out really cute. I used Nester's idea for the feathers. I think they are a nice touch.

Magnet Board/ Picture Frame

This was my weekend project. I saw this magnet board and photo frame in a Country Sampler magazine and thought , I can make that. It was fun and these will make great Christmas gifts. I'm excited to make these with my girlfriends soon.

The magnet board only cost $4 for materials. I bought a sheet of Waynes coating and cut it to size. I used left over paint from my house and a couple of flowers from my scrapbook collection. I bought an 12x24 sheet of aluminum and cut it with steel scissors. That was the toughest part. Very hard. I also had the ribbon in my collection that I used. I would recommend a somewhat stiffer solid color of ribbon to work with. This ribbon is patterned and too soft but it matched!

Here is the 5x7 frame. This one was a little tricky too. I had to score the plastic sheet to a 6x8 so a 5x7 would fit. I just used a 4x6 for this photo.

They are simple and it's great because you can use whatever you have around the house to accent your piece.

No more white!

Here is my weekend project. The walls have been white since we moved in. White isn't bad but it made me feel like a doctor's office waiting room. I also finally put a second coat on the stairway!! I moved some of the pictures around in the hall way and I'm happy with the way it turned out.
I finally found a place for my "H." I had it in the bedroom for a long time but didn't think it belonged in there. I think this is a fitting place for it.

Two Projects Down

This is the project that has the lights in it. (Obviously!!) My girlfriend showed me this idea that her sister had made. You just take an assortment of ribbon, cute it into short pieces, tie it around the light strand. I'm either going to pin it up in Stella's room or use it on a small Christmas tree and have a girly theme to it!!!
My Thanksgiving decor. I've been using my overstock of scrapbook paper and I bought the letters and ribbon at Hobby Lobby. It was fun to do and easy to make.

Monday I visited a friend in the church while our children played together. We got to talking and she informed me of her sister who is a "Martha." She creates so many inexpensive gifts that are very clever and charming. I do think I'll have to copy a few of her ideas. I have yet to create something my own, I'm a follower of ideas! Nevertheless, I'm working on a project that I think you will all love as much as me! I can't wait to show the finished product. Tomorrow I'm going to KMart and taking advantage of their double coupon deal!

An update on Gibson:

I took him to the Allergist about three weeks ago. After fighting with him to sit still, he was able to be tested. And the results were not good. He's allergic to pretty much everything except for dogs and cats, and food!!! He also had a false positive for peanut butter, which means that he can never stop having peanut in his diet otherwise he will become allergic to it!! He is now taking allergy shots weekly. The last two weeks he has been such a trooper. He sits in the chair all by himself and takes it like the brave little boy he is. Doesn't cry, whimper, nothing!! Every Tuesday is a reminder of how proud I am of my son!! It's also a little time that we can both be poked and spend some time together in the waiting room as we wait or recommended 20 minutes!!

I suppose the good thing that has come out of this, is this could be why he is having migraines. He sees the E.N.T. doctor tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get some answers from this doctor as well. I feel like I'm on the right track now. Thank you for all of your tips, support, and advice.

Before and After

Here's the red chair before I sanded it.
Close up of the result of sanding. I like the way it looks. It has character now!
After: New look and nice and clean. I ended up putting this chair in our office. Looks great as an accent piece with the blue/green paint.
Before: Painted black with water spots.
After: Several attempts at sanding it. Then I primed it. Put two coats of peanut butter paint from Benjamin Moore. Let that dry then I took some water based walnut stain. Watered it down. Soaked a rag in it and rubbed it on until I liked darkness of it. I was happy with they way this turned out to. I added a dollie (sp?) my Grandma made for me. She has passed now, so it means a lot. Then I filled a basket with little pumpkins and gourds.
