Kitchen Reveal

Here is the breakdown of what we did or had done:

Removed bulk head

Removed cabinets

Removed ceiling fan 

Removed backsplash

Removed counter top
Removed the paneling and chair rail, and replaced it with beadboard and new chair rail.
New trim.

Replaced sink and facuet

Replaced microwave for stainless steel microwave

Replaced light switches and covers for new white ones

Removed tile for new cabinet to be installed

New door

Hung new dry wall

Pendant lighting above the sink.

Built divider on ceiling to separate ceiling textures

Painted the ceilings a fresh coat of white

Installed:

Bright white 42' cabinets - so much space we love it!

Countertop: Quartz - Smoky Ash

Back splash - Lowes

Brush Nickel hardware

New curtains $23.00 , fabric on sale. Thank you to my mother in law for the beautiful sew job.

And there you have it folks! We just need to paint the door and we're done. I'd like a new kitchen table and chairs, but that'll have to wait for now. I'm so happy with the turnout. It's so bright, clean, and fresh.

Before and After

This is our fireplace before the remodel. This was a pic taken a few years ago. It's the only pic I could find, showing the fire place as a whole. I have always wanted shelves on each side. So during Q's two week break he decided to tackle this project with the help of his brother and Dad.

 1st day. They had to build a fake wall. He also had to chisel out the crown molding and remove the mantel which was one big piece of slate.

2nd day. We put bead board up and did more electrical.

3rd day. We bought 4 - 42 inch cabinets and put those on the bottom to use for our DVD, Wii, and game storage. We made the shelving out of MDF board. 

4th day. The dry wall is hung between the shelves. We also used dry wall to frame in the fireplace. The mantel is made out of 2x4's and MDF board. 

Finished product!! We are so pleased with how it turned out. We removed the face plate and spray painted the inside of the fire place black. It isn't in working order, so now it serves as great storage for Waylon's toys.I love that all of our books are in one spot. The kids have been asking me to read to them more. 

After

I made this up this afternoon. I was thinking of a quote to hang in the bathroom. Then I thought of a Veggie Tale movie they have about Self Worth. Self Worth + Mirror = a quote for reassurance!! Every time you look in the mirror are you happy? Are you thankful? Do you put yourself down, or lift yourself up? I thought this quote fit just right! The stars are cut outs from some extra scrapbook paper I had. The frame was taken from another room. Frugal decoration!!
I grabbed this cute silver basket from Target. Then I bought different shades of tan, brown, and black washcloths to use as accent/decoration. I love our new toilet paper holder. I purchased that at Wal Mart.
We found the counter top at Home Depot. I think we purchased this for $30 something. Good deal. I painted the cabinets black and added brushed nickel knobs and hinges. The faucet and mirror were there already. We then put up bead board and put up a chair rail. It's the same trim as the bottom, we just turned it upside down!

Before

Here are the before pics of the kids bathroom. At first I decided that I wanted to paint the vanity and put new knobs on the doors. I took everything off the vanity and then I decided I didn't like the fake green marble laminate floors. So I got after the floor with a chisel and a hammer. Q came home and said what flooring do you want? Wood laminate would be really nice. He then says, " If we get that wood laminate then we'll have to take the ceramic tile off the walls in order for the floor to fit under the trim. And if we take the tile off the walls then we might as well get a new counter top and get rid of the green one!! "
SWEET!!!! Basically it was a huge snowball effect. The project just kept getting bigger and bigger. We had to act fast. One trip to Home Depot and we had the flooring, walls, and knobs and hinges picked out in an hour. I'm an impatient person if you couldn't tell.

Nothing was wrong with the bathroom other than be a bit dated. I just didn't like the colors. It was functional, but not pleasing to MY eye. I think I get obsessed about decorating the house b/c I spend a lot of time at home. I'm constantly thinking of the possibilities. I get bored fast. I'm always changing furniture around.

Hopefully tonight I"ll post the finished product for you. I'm waiting on Q to finish up a few things 1st.

One Room Down........ two more to go!

I got the urge to paint Friday night. I was sick of our white walls in our bedroom with brown curtains. Didn't go good. And the walls still had the anchors in from the previous owners wall hangings. It's been over a year in our house, it was about time I did something with it. Our bed spread is green and brown with a little yellow and tan. I really like the green and thought I was going to go with that color for the walls and then Q brought it to my attention that I shouldn't do that, b/c then we'll have a mint chocolate chip room. I agreed. I chose a soft yellow. It is more challenging to paint in this house because our walls are textured plaster with half circle shapes. I even bought one coat paint thinking that'll do the trick. Wrong!! Two coats later it's finished.


This picture really doesn't capture the real color of it. This chair is my Great Grandmother's. My Mom gave it to me. Every time I sit on it I think of them. I loves pieces of history.
